A Perfect April Weekend in Asheville: What Locals Actually Do

What's on in Asheville this April?

April is one of the easiest times to enjoy Asheville. The weather is comfortable, and you don't have to plan your entire weekend weeks in advance. You can move at your own pace and still have a great experience. If you're coming to visit for a weekend, here is how we would suggest spending it.

Friday: Arrive and Get Settled

Arrive mid to late afternoon if you can! Check into your cabin, drop your bags off, and take your time to settle into the property before dinner.

Keep your first plans simple. If you want to head downtown, Chestnut is a reliable choice for a relaxed first night. If you'd prefer something more casual, Pack's Tavern is easy, quick and right in the middle of downtown.

Another option is grabbing takeout and bringing it back to your cabin. There are so many delicious options a short drive away, and it's nice to enjoy your rustic cabin with a warm meal and cozy up by the fire.

Saturday Morning: Coffee That's Worth It

Start your day somewhere you can sit for a bit.

Liberty House Café: great pastries and good if you want a slower start

High Five Coffee (Riverside): consistent coffee, more space, and easy parking

Izzy’s Coffee Den: more character, and a great option if you’re heading into downtown after

All three are places locals actually go, not just tourist stops.

Grab breakfast, take your time, then decide what you feel like doing next.

Saturday Afternoon: Get Outside!

April is the best time to be outside without it being too cold or too hot. It's comfortable and easy. If you're after a proper hike, you can check out Craggy Gardens for the views or Bent Creek for something more relaxed.

If you're after something more low key, you can walk through the River Arts District, spend time downtown browsing shops or galleries, or stop for a drink somewhere with outdoor seating.

There's not a need to plan this part of your trip. Asheville is better when you leave space in your day.

Saturday Night: Where you can Actually Go for Dinner

This is where it’s worth choosing something a bit more intentional. Here are solid options depending on what you’re in the mood for:

Cúrate: best if you want a more energetic, shared-plates dinner

Posana: good for a nicer meal without being too formal

The Montford Rooftop Bar: go around sunset, good views and drinks

Antidote: ideal if you want cocktails after dinner rather than a full meal

If you're going out on a Saturday, it's worth booking ahead for most of these. After dinner, you can take a short walk downtown before heading back to your cabin. The contrast between the city and the quiet is what makes the weekend feel the most balanced.

Sunday: Keep it Simple

Sunday is not the day to over schedule. Grab a coffee somewhere you missed, or go back to your favorite from Saturday. If you have time, take a short drive or walk before heading out. Most people leave wishing they had one more day, which is usually a sign you did it right.

Where to Stay

At the Log Cabin Motor Court, you're close enough to get into downtown Asheville quickly, but far enough out that you don't feel like you're in the middle of everything the whole time. The balance is what makes a weekend here work. You can go out, explore, eat well, and still come back to somewhere quiet and cozy at the end of the day.
