Plan a Fall Trip to NC - Asheville Peak Leaf Season and Fall Festivals

Plan a Fall Trip to NC - Asheville Peak Leaf Season and Fall Festivals

Fall in Western North Carolina is one of the most beautiful times of the year, and 2025 is expected to be no exception. According to the researchers at Appalachian State University, the Asheville area should hit peak fall color between October 24 and 31 this year. But the best part? You don’t need to be in Asheville on just one weekend to enjoy the show.

Because of how elevation drastically changes across the region, fall color starts in the higher elevations early on, and gradually works it’s way down. That mean’s you’ll see beautiful leaves for several weeks throughout October. If you’re heading up to Craggy Gardens, which sits at about 5,500 feet, you’ll likely catch peak color up there three weeks before it arrives in the city itself. Scenic drives like the Blue Ridge Parkway offer an easy way to experience these elevation changes, and plenty of leaf peeping photo ops along the way.

If you’re planning a fall getaway, pair the scenery with some local events to make the most of your time in Asheville. Below are some fun, seasonal activities happening in the area during our peak color weeks.
