Where to View Christmas Lights in Asheville

The festive season in Asheville is one of the most magical times to visit. As early as November, lights are turned on as we get ready for the holiday season. If you're thinking ahead to a holiday trip, make sure you include these three stops, and use a cozy cabin at the Log Cabin Motor Court as your lodging.

1. Biltmore Estate: Already Open!

From November 1 to January 4, the Biltmore Estate transforms into a holiday spectacle. Thousands of lights, hand decorated trees, garlands and candles fill the grounds. When you stay at the Log Cabin Motor Court, you're within easy reach of the estate yet far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet.

After viewing the lights at Biltmore, you can come back to your cabin, relax by the fire and enjoy a relaxing winter evening.

Pro Tip: Buy tickets early for the Candlelight Christmas Evenings, which includes live music, luminaries and different decor.

2. The North Carolina Arboretum Winter Lights

From November 15 to January 4 the Arboretum comes alive with over one million lights, making one of the regions brightest open air holiday shows. The walking trail through gardens, the 50 foot illuminated tree, the quilt garden lit to holiday music and new installations create an experience that's perfect for families, couples or anyone who loves holidays in nature.

The drive from the Log Cabin Motor Court is short and scenic, and you'll arrive with enough daylight to park and step into the light show before night fully sets in.

Pro Tip: Book a timed entry as tickets often sell out for prime evening slots. Expect crowds on weekends.

3. National Gingerbread House Competition at the Omni Grove Park Inn

Beginning mid November and continuing into early January, this competition gives holiday visitors a unique treat. The event brings in gingerbread artists from across the country to create elaborate edible structures made nearly entirely of gingerbread and decorations. The 2025 display runs from November 18 through to January 4, giving you plenty of time to plan a visit.

When planning your holiday lights trip to Asheville, choosing the right accommodation makes all the difference. Staying at the Log Cabin Motor Court means you'll have a comfortable, historic cabin to return to each night. The cabins are warm, inviting and located near downtown Asheville.

Looking for itinerary inspiration? Try this:

Arrive midday on a Friday, check into your cabin, and settle in. On Saturday evening visit the Arboretum’s Winter Lights and enjoy a relaxed dinner nearby. On Sunday head to Biltmore Estate in the afternoon, take the Candlelight tour and let the lights guide you into evening. Then on Monday enjoy a leisurely morning, walk around downtown Asheville, pick up a local pastry, and drive out slowly home.

Pack layers (mountain nights are chilly), bring a camera or smartphone for photos, and consider booking dinners in advance. The holiday season means places fill up. After your lights viewing, return to your cabin, switch on the fireplace and soak in your own peaceful evening, the perfect counterpoint to bright displays.

We'd love to welcome you the Log Cabin Motor Court this holiday season.
